Where are you going?

Πού πας;

Use πάω and σε to talk about destinations and locations.

1. Places

2. Going: πάω

εσύ πας you go (singular)
αυτός / αυτή / αυτό πάει he / she / it goes
εμείς πάμε we go
εσείς πάτε you go (plural / polite)
αυτοί / αυτές / αυτά πάνε they go

3. To, in, and at: σε

Σε can mean “to,” “in,” or “at.” It takes the accusative and combines with the definite article:

Combination Form Example
σε + τον στον στον σταθμό
σε + τη(ν) στη(ν) στη δουλειά / στην τράπεζα
σε + το στο στο πάρκο

Στην follows the same final -ν rule as την. Keep the -ν in masculine στον.

Πάω στο σχολείο.

I’m going to school.

Είμαι στο σχολείο.

I’m at school.

With an indefinite article, keep σε separate: σε ένα σπίτι (in a house).

4. Plural destinations and locations

With plural definite articles, σε combines with the article:

σε + τους στους στους σταθμούς
σε + τις στις στις τράπεζες
σε + τα στα στα σχολεία

Το σχολείο → τα σχολεία follows the neuter -ο → -α pattern.

5. Example sentences

  • πού — where

Πού πας;

Where are you going? (Singular, informal.)

Πού είναι η τράπεζα;

Where is the bank?

Δεν πάμε στο πάρκο τώρα.

We’re not going to the park now.

Η Μαρία δεν είναι στη δουλειά.

Maria is not at work.

Πάω στο σούπερ μάρκετ τώρα.

I’m going to the supermarket now.

Πάμε στο σχολείο.

We’re going to school.

Η Μαρία πάει στην τράπεζα.

Maria is going to the bank.

Είμαι στο σπίτι.

I’m at home.

Οι γάτες είναι στο πάρκο.

The cats are at the park.

Πηγαίνετε στο εστιατόριο;

Are you going to the restaurant? (Plural or polite.)
